Rosa Bonheur letters and sketchbook, 1847-1899.

Collection consists of ca. forty-five letters to several correspondents (1856-1898), and one sketchbook (1847), with one document pertaining to Bonheur's estate (1899). Correspondents include the dealer Ernest Gambart (1898), Jules Claretie (1896), Mme. Fabien (1864-1869), Georges Petit (1863), Lefevre (1884, 1896), Camille Marcille (1869), Schainedland (1896), the Comtesse de Villelume-Sombreuil (1856), and Bonheur's dealer Benjamin Tedesco (1874-1891). The subjects of the letters are varied and include personal engagements, atelier visits, the purchase by Bonheur of drawings by Alfred Dedreux and Jules Dupre (Tedesco, 1888-1889), work on a painting for "the Empress" (Mme. Fabien, 1864), problems with a horse harness, the renting of a donkey and a cart (Mme. Sigura, n.d.), an exhibition for Petit, dues for the "Societe de l'Enseignement Professionel des Femmes," financial and practical matters and work in progress. In chronological order.
